HARRY POTTER & THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS by JK Rowling, 3rd time!

I admit it.  My name is Polly Anna Watson and I'm a Potterite.  I LOVE Harry Potter.  If, by some chance, the Christians who have been shouting for years that the Harry Potter series is "of the devil" and shouldn't be read by serious Christians, I challenge those nay-sayers to actually READ the series and see for themselves.....we love Lord of the Rings and there are witches, wizards, warlocks, etc., etc., etc. littered throughout that series.  Why can't we enjoy Harry Potter, too????  It doesn't make any sense to me to go back to the purpose Tolkein (Tolkien?) wrote The Lord of the Rings series vs. J.K. Rowling's reason for writing the Harry Potter series.  When push comes to shove, it boils down to what each individual person who reads the books understands/gets when reading the series.  It's what we each individually see in the story that matters.

So I'm reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets again.  It's actually an accident that I'm reading this one again.  My MWF British Lit class chose to read Harry Potter.  When I was making out the schedule, I accidentally wrote down the title for book 2 rather than for book 1--Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.  It's really funny.  No matter what, though, reading ANY Harry Potter book is worth it!!!!!

Even though I've already read the whole series twice before, I'm ALREADY at chapter 4--and that's just one day's worth of reading!  I'm probably even going to read at least one more chapter before I go to bed!  Oh yeah!!!!

I LOVE Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Fred, George, Ginny, Percy, Bill, Charlie, Molly, Arthur, Dumbledore, Snape, Hagrid, and on and on and on and on!!!!!!  Oh yeah!

    Polly,
I am so glad to know that I am not going to hell because I love Harry Potter!
I share you love of everything Potter. I mean, it's a book. It's fantasy. It's just awesome!
I haven't seen the last 2 installments of the movies simply because I am afraid that I'll be disappointed.
I really want to start reading the entire series from the beginning. I love re-reading books and noticing details and putting them into the 'bigger picture'.
I also love Vampire novels... I love the Twilight series and the Thirst series. It's pretty cool. The Thirst series actually touches on several religions. Interesting.
Once again, I'm happy to know that you and I have even more in common that elementary school and being friends!
    Love you!
    Jenn

  2. Mrs. Watson,

I completely agree with the statement regarding what should and should not be read. Working at the Christian store, I see all different religions and all different opinions come into the store. Even watching my manager deal with certain customers of different religions that come in surprises me. As a society that is supposed to accept every one, and be equal.... Religion is one thing widely not equal.

Sure we see racism, and sexism; but I truly feel as though as a society we could have religionism. One could even look at the previous current events where the Muslims wanted to place a house of worship near ground zero. The uprise that came from that situation, was clearly a discrimination against religion.

So, who is to say that we can or cannot read a particular book. I feel as though when we can get over the discriminations regarding religion that then we can decide what books should and shouldn't be read.

  3. I am so glad that other adults love this series as much as myself. I have read the Harry Potter series multiple times as well. I know they are supposed to be for "young readers," but I can't help myself. I absolutely love all the magic and fantasy involved within the stories. I remember standing in line at Wal-mart for hours, with my enormous pregnant belly, awaiting the release of the last book, which I successfully read in one days time. Yeah, that's how bad and obsessive I can be about a book.
Still yet, every time a new movie is released, I can't help but to reread the series, just so that I'm positive I haven't forgotten any details no matter how minor they might be!
    Long live Harry!!!

  4. I really don't have anything to add but I just wanted to say I had no idea Potterite was a word.

  5. I don't know if "Potterite" is a word or not, but I'm using it! If "Gleek" is a word (yes, I'm one of those, too, but not so much since the more recent very risquee episodes), then why not "Potterite"? What is the term used to refer to those of us who love HARRY POTTER and read it every chance we get?!
